Algebra and autism.....
My son was studying for an algebra test last night and came to me quite distraught. He can solve equations but he cannot write them. He cannot understand how to write them at all! I was surprised by this until I reflected on it more. My son is good at math, but he was not until he had all the basics down. All the puzzle pieces have to be inside his mind in order for him to be able to put the information together in a cohesive way and see the complete picture. Writing algebraic equations is essentially learning a new language. I truly believe once we figure out how to give him all the tools to allow the puzzle to be completed then he will excel in Algebra 1. Now off to work on discovering those tools. I will keep you updated.
